Meow Mix
Damak
// article by Meow

"You like dark chocolate, don't you?" my grandmother asks, to which my response is, "Occasionally". Then she brings two bricks of this Turkish chocolate treat called "Damak", which, according to the back of the package, is a Turkish word implying taste.

Damak is a chocolate bar filled with pistachios, which is an interesting concept. I've seen almonds, peanuts, and hazelnuts before, but this is a first for pistachios. There are at least two varieties, Milk Chocolate and Dark Chocolate, but I have the Dark variety only since it was too dark for my grandmother. And at 55% Cacao, I can see why. That's one bitter chocolate!

Opening up the golden foil inside, the bar is divided up into a small grid that I've not seen in a chocolate bar before. I'd show it, but sadly, the bar melted and warped during my travels before I could take a picture. If you've seen the dividing pieces of a "fun size" Hershey bar before, it's the same size long-wise but height it about half. The chocolate itself is rather nice quality but is definitely on the bitter side due to its high cacao content. Definitely something I'd need to be in the mood for specifically, else it'll put me off. The pistachios within are nice and add a subtle flavor, but I'd probably like it more if there was more pistachio per piece.
