With the rise of the Nintendo DS came yet another series in the Mega Man franchise. If Mega Man Zero was far removed from its source material, Mega Man ZX is even farther. It is actually a continuation of Mega Man Zero more than anything else. At this point, the Reploids and the humans have figured out a way to live in a copacetic world: just merge together and form one species, the Humanoids. And that's exactly what they did. Flash forward to 25XX, where we meet our protagonists, Vent and Aile, under the parental guardianship of Giro, the owner of a delivery service. While delivering an important package, the trio are attacked by Mavericks. The package contained Biometal Model X, a unique element capable of giving great powers to its owners. With it, they can transform into Mega Man Model X to take down the Maverick threat. And so it begins... The game plays just like Mega Man Zero; that is to say, it's a platformer. You can choose between the two characters, but there really is no difference between the two other than gender. Score one for gender equality.

A few years after the events of Mega Man ZX, we see the formation of Legion, the Federation Government ruled by the Sage Trinity (of Thomas, Albert, and Mikhail, also the first names of the three scientists from the classic Mega Man series) designed to oversee the assimilation of humans and Reploids, as well as providing Reploids with limited life spans. Unbeknownst to many, however, Mavericks still exist in the dark corners of the world. A pair of Hunters, Grey and Ashe, have been assigned to deal with recent Maverick ambushes using the Biometal to transform into powerful beings with the abilities to actually take on these Mavericks. Mega Man ZX Advent follows the same style of games before it, focusing on straightforward platforming elements. Each character can merge and transform with certain metal Models for additional powers like before, as required. Mega Man ZX Advent was the last ZX game, making this the shortest Mega Man series yet.
