With the 25th anniversary of the Blue Bomber right at our doorstep, it's time to take a fond look back at the many forms, the many adventures, and the surprising number of games undertaken by one of video gaming's most beloved heroes, Mega Man. The series has been a personal favourite, ever since I first experienced Mega Man 2 and 3 on the NES. They provided an exhilarating new experience: being able to immediately select your path of choice, absorbing the powers of your enemies, and, of course, that legendary shoot-every-robot gameplay that has made Mega Man games so alluring and challenging. Of course, with time came different evolutions. The classic Mega Man series spawned numerous sub-series, including the futuristic Mega Man X, the endearing Mega Man Legends, the interconnected Mega Man Battle Network, all of whom spout their own sense of charm. In this edition of Random.access Retrospectives, we will honour Mega Man in all his glorious incarnations, as well as a few missteps along the way.
