After a talk about rum raisin ice cream some time back, a friend of mine found and purchased some Häagen-Dazs Rum Raisin for the two of us in personal small tubs. Being a
fan of rum, and being partial to raisins, I was always curious about this flavor.
Finally having eaten some, here are my findings: Häagen-Dazs ice cream, as per usual, is pretty good quality, very rich and creamy as any proper ice cream should be. The raisins were oddly soft, probably from being soaked in rum (as they are, you know, "rum raisins" as officially listed in the ingredients) since rum isn't prone to freezing in normal freezers. The whole ice cream has a nice level of rum taste to it, being made with actual rum. It's that somehow not often obtained level of "just right", being non-overpowering and non-"where is the flavor this thing claims to have".
The price of Häagen-Dazs ice cream is, as always, freaking expensive. I'd encourage people to make their own from scratch, but I know that not very many people are into that sort of thing and would rather take the easy way out. So, if you have the cash to burn, and you want to eat your booze in a dessert, Rum Raisin isn't a bad way to go.
