Get a few estivates before hiring a contractor.

It's time for yet another progressive trance tune from the extremely prolific Belgian producer M.I.K.E. Push. This time, it's a track called "Estivate", and I had to take a short pause before continuing. "Estivate". "Estivate"... Did he mean "Estimate", as in to take a guess? Or maybe he was trying to spell "Estevez", as in the birth last name of actor Charlie Sheen? Under further investigation, however, I discovered that "estivate" is actually a word, meaning "spend a hot or dry period in a prolonged state of torpor or dormancy". And after I looked up the word "torpor", I was pleased with myself for having learned two new words today.

Estivate comes in only one flavour: the beloved Original Mix. Sporting a techy leather jacket from the get-go, M.I.K.E. throws in a few odd tribal vocal clips for good measure as synthy plucks are showered liberally, presenting a solid buildup for what will be, I assume, a fine trance kicker. And he does not disappoint with a classic, slightly poignant melody worthy of his name on the cover. This is the classic M.I.K.E. sound, a harmonious sea filled with synth waves, a pounding drum, and a rumbling bassline to back it up. He even goes one step further with fake but still effective female vocal pops overlaying the backing synths for a little extra something. Very effective.

Of all the releases I've experienced to this day thus far from M.I.K.E. Push's latest alias, this is the most competent and endearing. If he keeps heading in this direction, he's got a fruitful future ahead.
